What vinyl decking costs in Calgary
Most companies won't tell you anything at all. Here is where our work starts, what actually moves the number, and why the rest of it belongs on an estimate written while standing on your deck rather than on a web page.
Where it starts
Vinyl deck replacement starts at $14 a square foot
That is a simple tear-off and redo: the old surface off, new 68 mil vinyl on, finished at the edges. On a 320 square foot deck that puts the starting budget around $4,500.
It is a floor, not a quote, and we are not going to pretend otherwise by dressing it up as a range. What your deck actually costs depends on things nobody can see from a web page: how the frame has aged, how it drains, how high it sits, how many stairs it has. Cameron settles all of that on site, in person, and writes it down.
One number, on paper, before any work is booked. That number is what the invoice says.
What actually moves the number
1. The condition of the frame
A sound frame is the biggest saving available on any deck. Cameron can read most of it by walking the deck and feeling how it moves. Forty years in construction is what that experience buys you.
2. Height off the ground
A second-storey deck means ladders, staging, safety and slower work. Ground level is straightforward by comparison.
3. Stairs and levels
Stairs are the most labour-dense square footage on any deck. Every landing adds framing, membrane and edge work.
4. Whether there is a room below
A deck over a garage, a walkout or a finished room is a roof, and it gets built like one. That is more assembly than a deck sitting over a lawn.
5. Railing supports
On nearly every job we open the surface where the railing posts land and put solid backing in. It is a line on your estimate, quoted before we start, and anything else we find gets a photograph and a price before we carry on.
How the number gets set
Nothing comes apart to get you a price
Cameron has been in construction 40 years and prices every job himself. He walks the deck, looks at how it sits and how it drains, and knows what it needs without taking anything apart.
So the estimate is done the same day, on the deck, without dismantling anything. You are not paying for exploratory demolition and you are not left with an opened-up deck while you think about it.
The one place we open the surface is where the railing posts land, because they need solid backing underneath. That is quoted on your estimate before we start. If anything else turns up once the old surface is off, you get a photograph and a price before we carry on. Never a number you find out about at the end.

What people ask about the price
Why not publish a full price list?
Because there are too many variables for a table to be honest. Two decks the same size can be thousands apart on height, stairs, drainage and what the frame has been through. Cameron would rather give you one accurate number after seeing it than a range you have to guess your way into.
Will the final invoice match the quote?
Yes. It is itemized and in writing, and the only thing that changes it is work you approved in writing after we found something.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes. Cameron comes out, measures, walks the deck and leaves you an itemized written number at no charge and no obligation.
Do you have to take the deck apart to quote it?
No. Forty years on the tools means Cameron can tell what is going on underneath by how a deck moves, drains and feels. Nothing comes off to get you a price.
Do you take deposits?
Not up front. Nothing is due until we are on site and working on your job.
How soon can you start?
Within a week of accepting the quote. The bigger companies are routinely six to eight weeks out; that wait is the main reason people call us.
What is the warranty?
15 years on the membrane from the manufacturer, and 10 years on our workmanship. Both are in writing with your paperwork.
